According to a survey conducted by Ipsos in June 2019, only five percent of Japanese respondents strongly agreed that temporary social media bans were unnecessary to stop the flow of fake news, since most people are capable of separating facts from fiction.
The background of the survey was a temporary social media ban by the government in Sri Lanka in April 2019 in the wake of a fatal terrorist attack.
Share of Japanese feeling social media bans are unnecessary due to the capability to separate facts from fiction as of June 2019
Original question: "For each of the following, please indicate if you strongly agree, somewhat agree, somewhat disagree or strongly disagree: I think that most people are capable of separating fact from fiction, so I would not support a temporary social media ban to stop the flow of fake news."
