From October 2019 to October 2020, the monthly waterway cargo volume of the Pearl River system in China decreased from 91 million metric tons to 82 million metric tons. Together with the Yangtze River and the Grand Canal as China's three main inland waterways, the Pearl River supports the manufacturing industry and cross border trading in Southern China.
