In 2019, the average age of domestic coastal commercial vessels in China was between 12.31 and 9.35 years. To cut carbon emissions and reduce air pollution, China is gradually switching from coal to cleaner fuel. Beijing has set a goal to significantly increase the natural gas supply by 2020, driving the shipment volume and demand of liquefied gas carriers.

Bulk carriers, general cargo vessels and ships with under a ten thousand tons capacity are excluded from the figure of dry cargo ships.
Oil tankers are those used for carrying crude oil and refined oil products here.
Chemical product tankers are those carrying oil and chemical products here.
Only vessels with over 700 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) are counted as container vessels and multi-purpose vessels are excluded.
