In 2018, around 90 percent of the uranium purchased by civilian nuclear power plants in the United States came from a foreign country, with Canada being the main source and commercial partner, accounting for 24 percent of U.S. uranium purchases. Domestic production of uranium only accounted for ten percent of the purchases from civilian nuclear power plants.
