Over 216 thousand village and small-town councils, also known as gram panchayats, were equipped with internet access across India. Of these, Uttar Pradesh had the maximum connectivity in its rural areas with over 47 thousand internet equipped gram panchayats, followed by Maharashtra during the measured time period.
BharatNet is a telecom infrastructure provision set up by the government of India to establish, manage and operate the National Optical Fiber Network that aims to provide a minimum of 100 megabits per second of broadband connectivity to all gram panchayats in the country.
