Changes homeowners made to afford mortgage payments in the U.S. 2018-2019
In April 2019, 42 percent of homeowners had to spend less on essential items such as food and utilities to afford their mortgage payments in the United States, up from 37 percent in August 2018. Fewer homeowners reported changing how much they spent on non-essential items in that period.
