Maharashtra led the startup race in India with 2,587 startups located in the state as of December 2018. Karnataka came second with 1,973 startups across the state. Overall, India was seen to be the third largest startup ecosystem in the world. While the top metro cities like Mumbai and Bangalore had a majority share of startups in the country, tier one and tier two cities were also catching up in the startup ecosystem.
