During this 2019 survey, 26 percent of the female respondents in Singapore stated they have experienced sexual harassment. By comparison, nine percent of the male respondents surveyed admitted to having experiences sexual harassment.
In Singapore, the term “sexual harassment” does not yet have a legal definition. However, the Protection from Harassment Act (“POHA”) 2014 provides various criminal sanctions, civil and self-help remedies to better protect people from harassment and related anti-social behavior. Unfortunately, applying for an order under POHA is complicated and costly, as applicants need a lawyer to assist in the preparation and submission of documents and subsequent proceedings.
