In 2017, around 806 thousand metric tons of baby formula was produced domestically in China, around 102 thousand tons more than five years ago. The Chinese baby milk industry lost the public's trust since the tainted-milk scandal was unfolded in 2008. One of the largest dairy producers, the Sanlu Group, was also involved.
