According to a survey on sexual harassment conducted in Malaysia in June 2019, 54 percent of respondents who have experienced sexual harassment stated that they did not report it due to embarrassment. Victims of sexual harassment might feel pressured to keep quiet in conservative Malaysia due to fear of being victim-blamed. Sexual harassment is viewed predominantly as something that affects women only. In light of this, most Malaysians believe that imposing tougher laws on sexual harassment is necessary.
