Information on the population: The survey is based on the German-speaking population aged 14 years and older with main residence in the Federal Republic of Germany.

2018: 23,389 respondents, representing 70.45 million people
2019: 23,318 respondents, representing 70.60 million people
2020: 23,191 respondents, representing 70.64 million people
2021: 22,563 respondents, representing 70.54 million people
2022: 23,015 respondents, representing 70.60 million people
2023: 23,524 respondents, representing 70.08 million people

The question for the survey was worded in the following way: "What do you do in your spare time if the season allows it? For each option, please mark whether you never, sometimes, or frequently do it. Spare time: Going camping, caravanning." (Original question in German: "Was machen Sie in Ihrer Freizeit, wenn es von der Jahreszeit her möglich ist? Kreuzen Sie bitte in jeder Zeile an, ob Sie das nie, ab und zu oder häufig machen. Freizeit: Camping, Caravaning betreiben.")
