The number of women's clubs playing in the Italian Volleyball Federation's major leagues decreased from 2017 to 2018. Whereas in the former year the federation recorded 5,163 women's clubs, in the latter the number of societies went down to 5,065. Although the amount of clubs playing in Serie A, Serie B, Serie C and Serie D recorded a slight increase, it was the decrease experienced in the First and Third Division that made the difference. Indeed, clubs playing in the Third Division passed from 1,224 to 1,134 over the considered period of time.
