From 2017 to 2018, the number of referees and scouts registered with the Italian Volleyball Federation experienced a general decrease, passing from 6,616 to an overall of 6,406. Lombardy, which was the region holding the highest figures for these categories in both years, recorded the same decreasing trend. Indeed, according to the study, in 2018 in this area it was measured that eight referees and scouts left the federation. Whereas other regions with a significant amount of federation's officials followed the same trend, an exception was recorded in Lazio. In this case, the figure rose to 604 referees and scouts over the selected years.
