As of 2016, the most common reason for using antimicrobials in cattle feed for use on feedlots was for growth promotion and a combination of growth promotion and liver abscess prevention/treatment. The percentage of cattle that were treated with antimicrobial feed for growth promotion or a combination of growth promotion and liver abscess treatment/prevention was 35.9 and 30.4 percent, respectively.
