Germany Facebook users 2024, by age and gender
As of September 2024, Facebook in Germany was most popular amongst women in the 25 to 34 year age group, with 13.7 percent of its users belonging to this demographic. Overall, 27 percent of users were between the age of 25 to 34 years. Just six percent of total Facebook audiences in Germany were over the age of 65 years.

The total number of Facebook users in Germany as of September 2024 was 46.6 million. Between December 2019 and December 2020, Facebook’s audience size in Germany grew by 6 million users - from 37.55 to 43.55 million. From 2020 to 2021, the number of people using the platform remained stable, with only a change of 0.1 million additional users. In addition, the penetration rate for Facebook in Germany was 48.71 percent in 2021 and 51.36 percent in 2022. There were 45.24 million social media users in Germany in 2023, an increase of over six million users since 2020. By 2026, this figure is expected to reach 52.93 million.
Social media platforms in Germany
Facebook Messenger, Facebook’s instant messaging app, had a total of 25.89 million users as of June 2024, a decrease of around 0.1 million users from the previous year. Men in the 25 to 34 year age group and women aged 35 to 44 years were the most likely audience of the instant messaging platform, with each group accounting for 13.1 percent of its user base. Social media network Instagram had 33.8 million users in Germany in 2024, a decrease of around 0.4 million users when compared to the previous year. This app was more favourable with women in the 25 to 34 year age group, followed by men of the same age range.
