Value of exports of cosmetic and cleaning products from Italy 2019, by destination

In 2019, the value of cosmetic and cleaning products exported from Italy to Western European countries amounted to 3.6 billion euros. Western Europe accounted for the highest export value of cosmetic and cleaning products from Italy, followed by Asian countries with 727 million euros. The third biggest importing macro-region for Italian cosmetic and cleaning products was composed by the new EU countries. In 2019, the share of exports of such products to Western Europe decreased 52.6 percent. On the other hand, the share of exports of cosmetics and cleaning products to Asia and NAFTA countries increased.

According to data provided by Prometeia, Italy exports more cosmetics and cleaning products than it imports. However, the value of imports is also significantly high, and Western Europe represents Italy’s main supplier of said products. A more detailed look into the supplying countries and destination markets reveals Italy’s strong commercial connection with France in this sector as in many others.

 Cosmetics industry in Italy 

  The cosmetics industry in Italy reported an estimated turnover of 6.9 billion euros in 2019, and it increased slightly but steadily in the last few years. With a turnover of 592 million euros, Kiko is the leading cosmetics company in the country, followed by Euroitalia and Sodalis. Founded in 1997 in Milan, Kiko became very successful and boasts now shops in all major European markets.
