Share of international tourists in Italy 2017, by country of origin and destination

This statistic shows the distribution of international tourists in Italy in 2017, by looking at the country of origin and the four Italian macro-areas of destination: North-West, North-East, Central, South and Islands. According to the study, the majority of international tourists came from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, U.S. and Switzerland. As reported by the research, whereas the majority of Swiss tourists preferred to visit the North-West, the North-East was preferred among people visiting from Germany. Moreover, the majority of visits from the U.S. concentrated in Central Italy, while tourists visiting from France and the United Kingdom chose the South and the Islands as their favorite destination.
