Wine was the most consumed alcoholic beverage in Uruguay in 2016, accounting for 44 percent of alcohol consumption in the country. In contrast, beer and spirits accounted for 35 and 21 percent of consumption. In that year Uruguay was the country with the highest annual per capita consumption of alcohol in Latin America and the Caribbean.
