As of December 2024, there were nearly 28.1 million Facebook Messenger users in South Africa, accounting for 45.6 percent of the population. The instant messaging app was mostly used by those aged 25 to 34 years, who made up 30.9 percent of Messenger's audience in the country. Just 4.3 percent of users were aged between 55 and 64 years. Additionally, women were slightly more likely to use the messaging service than men.
