When survey respondents were asked as of January 2019 whether they used any such alternative or partisan news sites in the week preceding the survey based on their political affiliation, it was seen that supporters of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), a coalition of left and center-left political parties in India, used alternative media the most with a 48 percent share. While those who were non-partisan in their political affiliation used these websites the least. India has seen a rise of partisan or alternative news websites catering to certain political ideologies to reach a small but specific audience.
