Eri silk is made from the cocoons of Samia cynthia (also known as eri silkmoth) which eats the leaves of the castor bean or cassava. This silk is made from the cocoons harmless way, which also gives it the name Ahimsa (meaning non-violent or peace) silk. Over nine thousand metric tons of these cut cocoons was produced across India in fiscal year 2023, an increase from the previous fiscal year.
