Press freedom index in Romania 2013-2024
Romania's press freedom index in 2024 was 68.45, a drop when compared with the previous year when it was 69.04, however, it moved up in the ranking to the 49th place. The index presents an overview of the plurality and independence of the media and how safe and free it is for journalist to do their job, with lower scores indicating a better situation for the press and higher scores a worse one. During this time period, Romania's press freedom index has increased by approximately two index points overall, suggesting that the situation for journalists has gotten worse in recent years.
