In both 2017 and 2018, the majority of possible victims of human trafficking registered by CoMensha were female. However, the number of women who were registered as potential victims of trafficking decreased in 2018, while the number of possible male remained approximately the same as in the previous year. Approximately two thirds of people registered as possible victims of trafficking in 2018 were female, while male trafficking victims accounted for around 33 percent of newly registered victims.
Distribution of newly registered victims of human trafficking in the Netherlands from 2017 to 2018, by gender
CoMensha (the National Coordination Centre against Human Trafficking) provides information about the extent and nature of human trafficking in the Netherlands through registration of (potential) victims of trafficking. In addition CoMensha provides policy advice and training, and runs a national helpdesk.
The source adds the following note: CoMensha provides an insight into the nature and extent of human trafficking and registers possible victims of human trafficking. The reason the term 'possible' victims is used is that in a chain approach there is no definitive set of criteria that a person must fulfill in order to be a 'real' victim of trafficking.
The figures concern the newly registered possible victims of human trafficking.
The figures have been taken from several publications.
