In 2018, Germany was the major supplier of pharmaceutical preparations for Italy, based on import value. According to the data provided by Prometeia, the other main suppliers were Belgium, Luxembourg and the U.S. However, the import value of medicinal products imported into Italy from the U.S. decreased from 3,567 million euros in 2013 to 2,949.4 million euros in 2018.
During the same period the value of the imports coming from Belgium and Luxembourg increased from 3,023.2 to 3,366.3 million euros. In addition, the value of products imported from the greatest supplier, Germany, almost doubled in 2018 compared to 2013 and it reached 4,350 million euros.
