Between 2016 and 2018, Belgium, Luxembourg, United States and Switzerland were the main destination countries for pharmaceutical preparations exported from Italy, based on export value. According to the data provided by Prometeia, in 2018, Belgium and Luxembourg recorded the highest value in terms of Italian exports of medicinal products, even though it reached 3.7 billion euros following a gradual decrease.
On the contrary, the value of pharmaceutical preparations exported from Italy to the U.S. increased from 1.5 billion euros in 2013 to 3.4 billion euros in 2018. Also, the value of products exported to Switzerland – the third largest destination country for Italian medicinal products – steadily increased over the three years considered.
