With the rise of e-commerce as a first point for consumers, the supply for warehousing in the United Kingdom (UK) has continued to grow. During 2020, take up of industrial warehouses that were over 50 thousand square feet amounted to approximately 50.38 million square feet in total.
Employment in warehouse and storage facilities
Despite the threats of employment losses due to automation, the average number of people employed by warehouse and storage enterprises in the United Kingdom (UK) has seen an overall growth between 2008 and 2019. As of 2019, a yearly average of 215 thousand individuals were employed by warehouse and storage facilities in the UK.
Investment in industrial real estate
According to real estate experts, the industrial sector had good and growing investment and development prospects. The value of investment in the European industrial and logistics real estate sector slightly decreased between 2019 and 2020, reaching a total of 38.1 billion euros in 2020. Nevertheless, the two largest markets, the UK and Germany, experienced substantial growth in investment.
