The share of basic chemicals and industrial gases exported from Italy into Western Europe decreased from 55 percent in 2013 to 51.9 percent in 2018. According to the data provided by Prometeia, Western Europe still accounted for more than half of the total value of Italian exports in this sector. However, during the period considered, the share of other importing macro-regions increased. For instance, in 2018, Asia accounted for 12.3 percent of the total export value, whereas in 2013 it represented 9.1 percent of it.
