The majority of UK holidaymakers surveyed in 2019 claimed that overtourism had impacted their choice of holiday destination in some way. Around a quarter of respondents in the UK said that they had looked for new places to visit, while others said they visited popular destinations outside of buys periods instead (25 percent). Overall, however, 44 percent said it had not changed their holiday behavior at all.
Overtourism refers to problems related to overcrowding at popular tourist destinations, such as protests from locals and the negative impact it has on the environment.
