The consumption of single-use plastic items in the United Kingdom is expected to increase. In 2017, the country consumed 44.1 billion drink stirrers. By 2030, it is estimated that this number will increase to 59 billion, a growth of 47 percent. The smallest projected increase is for plastic bottles, which will see a potential increase of nine percent.
