Finland: healthcare services for mental health by gender 2018

This statistic shows the share of people using healthcare services due to mental health problems in the last 12 months in Finland in 2018, by gender. According to the results of the survey, nine percent of all respondents had used healthcare services due to mental health issues within the last year. With roughly seven percent, the share of men using mental healthcare services was approximately two percent lower than with women.

The original question was phrased as follows: "'Oletteko käynyt mielenterveydellisten tai päihteiden käyttöön liittyvien ongelmien takia 12 viime kuukauden aikana:". Kysymyspatterin alakysymyksinä esitettiin: a) terveyskeskuksessa, työterveyshuollossa tai opiskeluterveydenhuollossa, b) mielenterveystoimistossa tai psykiatrian poliklinikalla, c) A-klinikalla, katkaisuhoidossa tai muussa päihdehoidossa, d) yksityisvastaanotolla (lääkäri, psykologi tai muu), e) psykiatrisessa tai muussa sairaalassa, f) muussa hoitopaikassa missä? Vastausvaihtoehdot olivat: 1) en, 2) kyllä, mielenterveydellisten ongelmien vuoksi, 3) kyllä, päihteiden käyttöön liittyvien ongelmien vuoksi. Tarkastelussa ovat yhteen tai useampaan alakysymykseen vaihtoehdon 2) kyllä, mielenterveydellisten ongelmien vuoksi vastanneet."

The source provides the following information: "Information is collected by a mail and online questionnaire.
The respondents are at least 20 years old and have permanent residency in Finland. There is no upper age limit.
The questionnaire is sent to people drawn by random sampling from the data of the Population Register Centre.
The questionnaire form is available in Finnish, Swedish, Russian and English. The survey is carried out annually at the national level (sample size 10,000). This allows processing the findings only on the national level, not by any smaller regions.
Once every four years, the sample size is expanded to enable following the changes by counties at a rough level (sample size 3,300/county)."
