Between 2012 and 2016, Russian passenger and light commercial vehicle production shrunk roughly twice in volume. Namely, figures fell from 2.1 million units in 2012 to 1.2 million in 2016. Nonetheless, production volumes started to grow again after 2016 and, in 2019, roughly 1.7 million cars were produced across the country.
