According to the results of a survey on the awareness of the new EU directive on online banking* in Italy, 57 percent of Italians said that they are aware of the changes in the way they are supposed to access their online banking (OTP tokens will be substituted by a message on the smartphone). The survey was conducted by YouGov Italia about tree months before the PSD2 directive enters into force. Surprisingly enough, almost 40 percent of the respondents were not yet aware of the introduction of a new system for online banking access.

* The source adds the following information: "From September 14, 2019, to access online banking services smartphones will substitute One Time Password (OTP) tokens. In fact to access the bank account and carry out transactions online, a password will be generated in the banking app or sent via SMS. The password will have a validity of 15/30 seconds and can be used only once."
