Annual greenhouse gas emissions volume South Korea 2011-2021

In 2021, the total volume of greenhouse gases emitted in South Korea was 676.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. South Korea produces a significant amount of greenhouse gases yearly, with an average person residing in Korea producing around 13 tons of greenhouse gases per year.

Regulating greenhouse gas emissions

Korea has produced a lot of greenhouse gases due to its manufacturing-oriented industrial structure. Korea aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 37 percent by 2030. Hence, companies are sharing the burden of greenhouse gas emissions through carbon credit trading. In addition, efforts are being made to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by subsidizing electric vehicles that use renewable energy.

Air pollution problems

Korea experiences air pollution problems such as high levels of PM10 and PM2.5.
