Between 2019 and 2021, Italian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) were expected to experience a recession. The forecasted cumulative change of both value added and employment of SMEs, in fact, was negative. According to data, value added was expected to decrease by 8.4 percent between 2019 and 2021, while employment would decrease by 3.6 percent.
