The earning before taxes (EBT) of enterprises active in the paper and cardboard packaging sector in Italy peaked at 155 million euros in 2022. This figure decreased by almost 50 percent between 2020 and 2021, when it amounted to 92 million euros. In 2022, the leading Italian paper packaging company was Smurfit Kappa S.p.A., with a revenue of 975 million euros.

Only includes companies with significant (statutory) turnover and a degree of specialization in the sector greater than or equal to 50 percent of the total turnover. The calculation also considers the balance of power between companies. For example, companies with too high a turnover were discarded, so that their balance sheet structure does not excessively influence the average sector indicators.
