Leading Italian paper packaging companies 2022, by revenue

 In 2022, Smurfit Kappa Italia S.p.A. was the leading company in the paper and cardboard packaging sector in Italy, with revenues amounting to 975 million euros. DS Smith packaging Italia S.p.A. and International paper Italia S.p.A. came second and third in the ranking, with revenues of 673 and 379 million euros, respectively.

The overall Italian paper packaging sector has grown between 2015 and 2022. In fact, the analysis of the financial data of a significant sample of paper packaging firms reveals positive trends. In detail, the production value, the value added, as well as the number of employees of this industry have steadily increased over the years considered.    

Paper recycling in Italy

Italy's paper industry generates a considerable volume of waste, which includes paper packaging from municipal waste sorting. In 2022, paper packaging represented the largest volume of packaging waste sent for recycling in the country. Over the past few years, the rate of paper packaging recycled in Italy stood at over 80 percent.
