During the surveyed period, the leading reason for sexual inexperience among male university students in Japan was the lack of a partner, while 3.6 percent of male respondents named an aversion to sex as the main cause for not having had sex yet.

*The survey targeted students of junior high schools, high schools and universities across the country. In 2017, out of a sample size of 12,925 respondents, 4,149 were in university.
