Indira Gandhi International airport in India’s capital city of Delhi had the highest share of foreign tourist arrivals, accounting for approximately 31.21 percent of the total share in 2022. The airport welcomed over 1932 thousand overseas visitors that same year.
Convenient air travel
As the busiest airport of India, the Delhi airport was the biggest handler of passenger traffic as well as cargo in the nation in fiscal year 2019. To cater to such a huge population the airport authorities have constantly tried to make the entire process of air travel more convenient. Providing convenient connections to the Delhi Metro network for the ease of commuting into the city was one of the initiatives taken up for the 2010 Commonwealth games. Recently, doorstep baggage transfer facility was introduced where passengers will have the option of baggage booking via CarterX’s website or app.
Free from plastics
In line with the Prime Minister’s vision to abolish all single-use plastic from India by 2022, the Delhi airport became the first in India to make a commitment towards banning single-use plastic. The airport has significantly brought down the generation of plastic waste by encouraging the usage of eco-friendly and sustainable alternatives. As of February 2020, the airport became the nation’s first ever single-use plastic free airport.
