In four of the nine chosen cities, New York, Vancouver, Melbourne and Dubai, private cars are used for the majority of passenger transport, particularly in Dubai. Here, private cars make up 83 percent of passenger transportation. Public transport services are very popular in both Mumbai and Buenos Aires, thanks to having some of the lowest public transport costs in the world.

Mumbai Metropolitan Area, which comprises Greater Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan, Navi Mumbai and Ulhasnagar;
Melbourne Urban Centre and Locality (as defined by Australian Bureau of Statistics);
Nairobi City County;
New York (NY-NJ-CT) urbanized area as designated by US Office of Management and Budget;
Vancouver Census Metropolitan Area
