Most important organic food categories among consumers Thailand 2023

According to a survey conducted by Rakuten Insight in September 2023, approximately 89 percent of Thai respondents stated that it was important for them to purchase organic vegetables and fruits. This was followed by organic meat with 50 percent of the survey participants.

Organic food market trends in Thailand

Thailand’s organic food market is gaining traction. The consumption value of organic packaged food and beverages in the country has been increasing over the past few years and is forecast to reach around 36 million U.S. dollars by 2025. Thai consumer inclination to purchase organic foods is growing rapidly. As revealed in the food survey conducted in 2023, the majority of Thai respondents displayed a higher willingness to pay for organic food than conventionally grown food products.

What motivates Thai consumers to buy organic food?

The leading reason for purchasing organic food products among Thai consumers was the belief that organic food is healthier and more nutritious. However, the biggest hurdle to consumers purchasing organic food is the distrust that these food products are healthier than conventionally grown food products. More than half of the respondents indicated not purchasing organic food products because they are too expensive.
