Facebook was the most popular social media platform among Danish internet users in 2018, regardless of age. Nevertheless, some generations seemed to be more keen on using the platform. In detail, 82 percent of the respondents aged between 16 and 24 years used Facebook, whereas the corresponding figure for 75- to 89-year-old internet users was 12 percent. Among the other most common social media platforms were Snapchat, Instagram and YouTube. On average, Twitter was used by one percent of the internet users on average that year. Facebook was more common among Danish women than men that year. In a similar pattern, Instagram and Snapchat were also more popular among female users, whereas YouTube and Twitter were more popular among men.
Why do people in Denmark use Facebook?
Most of Danes used the social media platform to keep contact with family and friends in 2019. The second most popular reason to use Facebook was entertainment and more than one fourth of the respondents reported to have used the platform as a news source.

Moreover, Facebook was the leading social network worldwide in terms of number of active users, with close to 2.4 billion active users as of July 2019. YouTube ranked second, with approximately two billion active users the same year, followed by WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and WeChat.
