Definition Range
The range is the distance between the largest and the smallest empirical value in a set of numerical values.
If, answering a question about body weight, the lowest given value is 115 lbs and the highest value is 200 lbs – the range is 85 lbs. If we evaluate a scale from 1 to 11 about personal satisfaction and the lowest given value of our survey is a 2, the highest a 10 – the range is 8.
