Definition Validation dataset
In the contexts of machine learning and regression analysis, it is a common best practice to split the dataset on which the the model is calculated into three portions: the training, validation, and the test datasets. After training the model on the test dataset, the models hyperparameters can be fine-tuned using the validation dataset before getting their final evaluation on the test dataset.
