04.11.2018 Medical Academy Rostock launches pilot project "Statista for Schools"
As the first school in Germany, the Medical Academy Rostock benefits from the initiative "Statista for Schools". Students can now use the extensive database of the statistic portal Statista and access more than one million statistics from around 22,500 sources.
Last Friday, teachers and students of the IB Medical Academy Rostock met with representatives of the Hamburg based company to start the nationwide pilot project 'Statista for Schools' from Rostock. "With the help of Statista, we are happy to give our students another digital tool to learn media literacy in the classroom. Especially in terms of research and the use of information and data on the internet, this is a great help for the entire vocational training, "said the headmaster of the Medical Academy Michael Nimtz.
As part of the in-house teacher training day, staff of the IB Medical Academy began to study intensively the different functionalities of the statistics portal. In direct exchange with Statista, the first use cases for the lessons were played through and new applications were tried out. For the teachers a grateful opportunity to enrich the spectrum of their lessons with data. "For me and my colleagues, Statista is a nice extension for classes that we are looking forward to using," concludes Karolin Block, a teacher at the IB Medical Academy.
The aim of the initiative is to digitally support teaching in schools. This way, students should learn early important skills such as selecting, evaluating, and interpreting data which they can use then, for example, for presentations or for class preparation. Dr. Friedrich Schwandt, Managing Director of Statista: "With 'Statista for Schools' we want to take responsibility when it comes to preparing students for their digital future in education and work." That the Medical Academy Rostock receives the first access to the statistics portal is no coincidence, according to Schwandt: "The Medical Academy stands for educational justice, equal opportunity and an educational concept that offers young people and adults career opportunities regardless of social or ethnic origin. We want to promote this principle and are glad to have found a great, committed partner for the pilot project with the Medical Academy Rostock. "
In addition, with the IB Medical Academy Statista also has a partner for whom the topic of statistics has been part of education for years. For example, in the training profession 'Medical Documentary', medical and documentary knowledge is combined with computer science. Statisticians and physicians work in team to optimally coordinate databases and economic performance management.
