Europe’s Climate Leaders 2024

For the fourth time, the Financial Times and Statista are looking for "Europe's Climate Leaders".

It will be a list of companies across Europe that have shown the highest reduction of their emission intensity between 2017 and 2022, which is to say, their core greenhouse gas emissions in relation to their revenues, as well as further climate-related engagements (e. g. collaboration with the CDP and SBTi, transparency regarding scope 3 emissions). The following graphic shows the considered criteria and the composition of the score.

A detailed description of the methodology can be found here. The list will be published in the print edition of Financial Times in spring 2024, as well as online on www.ft.com.

The former editions of the ranking are published here:

https://www.ft.com/climate-leaders-europe-2023

https://www.ft.com/climate-leaders-europe-2022

https://www.ft.com/climate-leaders-europe-2021

In order to participate, companies have to fill out a short questionnaire and send us a data verification form.

The editors reserve the right to exclude companies whose broader environmental record — on non-GHG pollution, for example, or deforestation — is sufficiently disputed to undermine any claim to be a “climate leader”.

Who can participate?

To be considered for inclusion in the list your company must meet the following criteria:

  • The company is headquartered in one of 33 European countries1
  • The company has a revenue of at least €40 million in 20222
  • The company reports emissions data independently
  • The company publishes the following data:
    • core emissions (scope 1 and scope 2) for the years 2017 and 20223
    • revenues for the years 2017 and 2022
  • In case a CDP rating is available, the score must be at least B-4

Which data do I need to prepare?

In the questionnaire, you will be asked to provide us with the following data:

  • Your company’s global GHG emissions for all available years between 2017 and 2022
