Different people buy used goods for different reasons. Some might find it a bit more affordable to purchase second-hand items, while others think of it as a sustainable purchase. Buying a product, which was already used before, means that no new resources were used to manufacture that item which means less burden on the environment.
In the United States, the (lower) price was single most common reason why respondents bought luxury items from high-end second-hand stores in 2018.: 51 percent of consumers surveyed in the U.S. believed that they got a better price purchasing luxury bags, shoes, and other such accessories from these stores. This, along with others, might have been the reason for 18 percent of the respondents to purchase different things from the high-end second hand stores for multiple times a month in the course of 2018.
What are the most popular high-end second-hand stores in the United States?
Online retailer ThredUp was the most popular thrift store selling luxury items in the United States in 2018: Almost one third of the respondents surveyed in the U.S. were aware of the online seller and buyer of high-quality secondhand clothes. Second in this ranking is Rebag where users can buy or sell used designer handbags both online and in store.
