Most U.S. respondents – 18 to 69 – bought clothes from Kohl’s in the past 12 months, as of 2017. The American department store retail chain, founded in 1962, sold clothes to 53% of the group of respondents as compared to 43% of the consumers having purchased clothes at J.C. Penney.
Popular department store chain Macy’s ranks third. Headquartered in Cincinnati, the American retail giant currently has one of the largest retail stores in the world, located in New York City.
Resurgence of retail stores
Many people fear that the rise of e-commerce will bring an end to traditional stores in the U.S. This might be true for some department stores that have seen closures between 2016 and 2018, others however, experienced a considerable increase in number of stores.
As per retail stores, the trend is quite positive. There have been more openings of new retail stores in the U.S. than closure of existing ones since 2017. So, if these results are anything to go by, the traditional stores are here to stay for the foreseeable future.
