Spread of bedbugs to unfamiliar places drives industry revenue
While bedbugs were traditionally limited to hotels and few residences in the past, the insects have now expanded their habitat to more unlikely spot , including office buildings, retail stores, movie theaters, and even airplanes. The increased occurrence of these pests led to an increase in the frequency of usage of insecticides during the period 2011-2018. Consequently, bedbug removal services, accounted for a significant share of the total pest control revenue as cited in a survey conducted by the University of Kentucky. In an interesting revelation by pest control service provider Orkin, most people from Baltimore were unlucky and got infested with bedbugs in 2018.
Pesticides export revenues are three times that of imports
The U.S. is among the top three pesticides exporting countries in the world. With nearly 3.9 billion U.S. dollars of revenue in 2017, the export market overshadowed the 1.3 billion U.S. dollars of imports that the country made in the same year.
