In 2023, the number of connections of Internet of Things (IoT) in Singapore reached around 2.5 million, an increase from around 2.3 million connections in the previous year. Statista Digital Market Insight estimated that the number of IoT connections will continue to increase and reach about 3.9 million by 2028.

IoT driven by the 5G network

  As the first country in the world to be fully covered by an autonomous 5G network from July 2022, Singapore is positioning itself as an ideal location for IoT development. Indeed, the country's 5G speed allows for a variety of IoT applications to be supported. Among the leading smart technologies likely to improve everyday life, Singaporeans cite surveillance cameras and public safety, as well as intelligent energy management.

IoT's contribution to making Singapore a smart city

Singapore is considered one of the world's leading smart cities based on its digital capacity. Connected technologies can help improve urban living conditions. For example, smart sensors placed at busy intersections help optimize traffic flow and reduce congestion. According to a survey conducted in April 2023, 59 percent of Singaporeans surveyed identified intelligent traffic control, smart parking, and real-time information for public transport as the main advantages they perceived in a smart city.
