Majestic.co.uk was the leading online shop in the wine and liquor segment in the United Kingdom in 2023, followed in the ranking by Naked Wines and waitrosecellar.com. Revenues generated in the UK accounted for approximately 43 percent of Naked Wines' global revenues in 2024.

While wine e-commerce has not been widely adopted, the pandemic has challenged this status quo. Online beer, wine, and spirits in the UK recorded a whopping 143 percent increase in sales in January 2021. However, by June of the following year, sales growth of alcohol e-commerce had already gone in the negative territory. Nevertheless, wine e-commerce is poised to continue growing in the future. Globally, the market is forecast to generate e-commerce revenues reaching 7.5 billion U.S. dollars by 2029.

In 2023, nearly 13 million hectoliters of wine were consumed in the UK, compared to 19 million hectoliters consumed in Germany. However, due to its cold climate, the United Kingdom does not rank among the leading wine-producing countries.
